Ghana's Ultimate Entrepreneurship Competition

The inaugural project launched by Boost Foundation was the Ghana’s Ultimate Entrepreneur Competition (GUEC). This was a reality nationwide entrepreneurship competition designed to showcase the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit in Ghanaian youths towards realizing a broader purpose of nation building.

This competition was created to give young Ghanaian entrepreneurs the opportunity, platform, and resources to fulfill their entrepreneurial potentials while contributing to the socioeconomic development of the country.

The aims of the competition were to inspire, cultivate, and promote the culture and spirit of entrepreneurship among young Ghanaians and contribute towards enhancing job creation, and poverty alleviation in the country.

Twenty five (25) participants were selected and given a set of business-related tasks which they had to complete in the course of the competition, over four stages. Some
participants were eliminated based on their performance at each stage.

Though it was a winner-takes-all contest, GUEC helped the
contestants develop and sharpen their entrepreneurial skills as they completed different tasks and progressed through the different stages of the competition. Ultimately,
the winner, a female entrepreneur was awarded GHS10,000.00 to support the expansion of her
business.

Sua Adepam Project

Sua Adepam is a capacity building and economic empowerment project launched in partnership with Mastercard Foundation. It is designed to equip young vulnerable women and youth with the skills and knowledge they need to access and exploit economic opportunities that are available to them. The project is targeted at individuals who are interested in learning how to sew but do not have the financial capacity to put themselves through a fashion school or training. Under the Sua Adepam project, 65 disadvantaged youth and women are currently undergoing hands-on training in cloth-making across three regions in Ghana, namely Greater Accra, Bono East & Greater Kumasi.

Some of the highlights of this project include the successful procurement and distribution of 65 sewing machines to all participants across the three regions. This along with the payment of the stipends of beneficiaries and master artisans’ fees helped sustain their motivation and commitment to the implementation of the project.

Economic Empowerment  Initiative

The Foundation implemented an economic empowerment initiative to support a trained seamstress who lacked the financial resources to start her business. To address this need, the Foundation donated an industrial sewing machine, enabling her to establish and operate her cloth-making enterprise.

As the Foundation continues to expand its network of partners and sponsors, it aims to scale up these economic empowerment efforts to reach more skilled yet financially disadvantaged individuals who require startup capital to launch their businesses.
